LI WINS DOUBLE GOLD AT PAN AM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Former Varsity Blues badminton player Michelle Li won two gold medals in the women’s singles and doubles events at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 2009-10 OUA rookie of the year, Li paired up with Toronto’s Alex Bruce to claim the top spot in women's doubles action on Wednesday afternoon, defeating American sisters Iris and Rena Wang 21-15, 21-15 in the gold-medal match.

The Richmond Hill, Ont., native followed that up with another first-place finish on Thursday in the women's singles event.

Li has taken the last two years off from studies to train for the 2012 Olympic Games. She previously won singles and doubles gold at the 2007 Pan American Junior Games, as well as a silver medal in doubles at the 2008 Commonwealth Games.
