Athletics Canada announced Wednesday that Varsity Blues pole vaulter Jason Wurster is among the 40 athletes that will compete at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, October 6-12, in Delhi, India.
Fresh off his fourth Canadian title in the past five years, this will be Wurster’s first Commonwealth Games appearance. The Stevensville, Ont., native is a two-time Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) champion and is no stranger to international competition.
Wurster has competed at the past two world university games in Bangkok (2007) and Belgrade (2009), finishing fifth and sixth, respectively, and went on a European tour last summer in Germany.
In addition, University of Toronto high performance centre athlete Jillian Drouin will also be traveling to Delhi to compete in women’s high jump. Similarly, Molly Killingbeck, the lead coach of the national development centre at U of T, will act as the Commonwealth Games team sprints and relays coach.
