The Varsity Blues are pleased to announce that Colleen Hennessy has accepted her offer of admission and has committed to compete on the cross country and track and field teams while pursuing an education at the University of Toronto starting in the fall.
A native of Oakville, Ont., Hennessy won the 1500m gold and 3000m silver medal at the 2010 Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) track and field championships. The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School graduate followed that up with a fifth-place finish in the 1500m at the Canadian world junior trials in Moncton, N.B. this past month.
Hennessy’s cross country success is just as impressive. The 2007 junior girls OFSAA champion, Hennessy placed fourth in the senior girls category in 2008 and was named her high school’s most valuable runner for four consecutive years.
“Colleen is a great student and a phenomenal athlete,” said Varsity Blues track and field head coach Carl Georgevski. “She has been training with our junior development program since grade 10 and we are thrilled that she chose to continue to our Varsity program. I’m looking forward to watching her progress at the university level.”
When she is not on the track, Hennessy competes internationally in Irish dancing and is a volunteer at the Halton Trauma Centre. She will enter the Faculty of Physical Education and Health’s Concurrent Teacher Education Program (CTEP) starting in September.
