Box Score Three players hit double digits as the Varsity Blues women’s basketball team handily defeated the Waterloo Warriors 81-45 on Friday, November 26 at PAC in Waterloo, Ont.
With the win, the Blues improve to 6-2 and remain atop the OUA standings, while Waterloo drops to 0-7 on the season.
The Blues took an early 21-11 lead and didn’t look back. Toronto outscored Waterloo by at least nine points in each quarter to secure their sixth win of the season.
U of T shot 42% from the floor, compared to Waterloo’s 29%, and were 15-of-17 from the free throw line.
Toronto native Nicki Schutz led the Blues with 16 points and seven boards, while rookie guard Jill Stratton of Etobicoke, Ont., had 15 points on the night. Sophomore forward and Orangeville, Ont., native Alicia Van Kampen had an impressive performance with nine boards and a game-high 12 rebounds, while veteran guard Sherri Pierce of Brampton, Ont., recorded 11 points in the win.
Waterloo was led by Laura Burnett’s 11-point performance, while Kate Kuntze had eight points in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow afternoon when they travel back to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks at 12 p.m.
