Box Score The Varsity Blues women’s basketball team dropped their first game of the season in a tough 90-46 loss to the Western Mustangs on Saturday, November 13 in London, Ont.
Despite the loss, the Blues remain in first place in the OUA East division with a 4-1 record. Western improves to 4-0 and are tied with the Laurier Golden Hawks for first place in the West.
The Blues came out strong and only trailed 25-19 after the first quarter. Things fell apart from there, as Toronto was held to a mere eight points in each of the remaining three quarters.
Veteran guards Sherri Pierce of Brampton, Ont., and Kingston, Ont., native Erin McNeely led the Blues with 12 points apiece in the loss.
Western was led by an 18-point performance by Katelyn Leddy. Jacklyn Selfe chipped in with 13, while Jenny Vaughn had 12 points in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to the court next Friday, November 19 when they host the Brock Badgers at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is 6 p.m.
