The Varsity Blues women’s rugby team dropped a 32-8 decision to the Queen’s Gaels on Friday, October 8 at Kingston Field.
The Blues had a rough start against the Gaels, who remain undefeated this season. In the opening half of the game, Andrea Wadsworth (Toronto) racked in the first 10 points with two consecutive tries, followed up by Jocelyn Poirier (Ottawa) who nabbed another two tries in the 32nd minute.
Varsity Blues standout Lee-Anne Corrigan of Phelpston, Ont. fired back with a penalty goal, bringing the score to 15-3 at the half.
Poirier and Wadsworth would post back-to-back tries in the second half with Kranenberg converting on Porier’s try making the score 27-3. Corrigan would notch Toronto’s only try in the 35th minute before Trinier closed the scoring at 32-8 in favour of Queeen’s.
The Varsity Blues finish the season with a 1-3-1 record and awaits the results of the final game of the regular season between Trent and York to determine playoff rankings.
