TWO BIG WINS FOR BLUES IN KINGSTON

The Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the McGill Martlets 3-1 and blanked Carleton Ravens 7-0 on Friday, October 8 in Kingston, Ont.

With the wins, the Blues improve to 8-1 and sit in second place behind the Guelph Gryphons.

McGill opened the scoring in the first game of the day, capitalizing on a penalty corner and held on to a one-goal lead after the first half. The Blues battled back, scoring two goals in the first five minutes off the sticks of North Vancouver, B.C., native Kelley Lusk and Alexandra Evanysnyn of Burlington, Ont. Fourth-year midfielder Hannah Tighe of Penticton, B.C., notched U of T’s third goal of the game on a stroke to seal the 3-1 victory.

The Blues went on to dominate versus the winless Ravens. North Vancouver native Alexandra Thicke led the team with two goals, while Lusk, Katherine McNeil, Emily Roy, Heather Haughn and Kyesia O’Neale each added a single goal in the win.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 16 when they travel back to Kingston, Ont. to take on the Guelph Gryphons and Western Mustangs. Game times are 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
