TWO BIG WINS FOR BLUES FIELD HOCKEY

The Varsity Blues field hockey team came from behind to beat the OUA defending champion Guelph Gryphons 3-1 and went on to defeat the Western Mustangs 4-0 on Saturday, October 16 in Kingston, Ont.

With the two wins, the Blues improve to 11-1 and sit tied for first place with the Gryphons in the OUA standings.

Guelph scored in the first five minutes; however, that would be all that they would muster as the Blues were relentless in their pressure for the rest of the game.

Peterborough, Ont., native Emily Roy, Alexandra Evanysnyn of Burlington, Ont., and Yvonne Langen (Cambridge, Ont.) scored for Toronto to round out the 3-1 win. Hannah Tighe, Siobhan Gordon, Kaelan Watson and Kyesia O’Neale dominated in the midfield, while Katie-Jo Williams earned the win in goal.

The Blues carried that momentum over to the second game of the day. Evanysyn, Richmond, B.C., native Kaelan Watson, Alex Thicke of North Vancouver and Angela Jennings (Ottawa) all scored in the dominant 4-0 win over Western.

Goalie Sam Lyzun earned the shut out win in net.

The Varsity Blues finish off their trip in Kingston when they take on the host Queen’s Gaels tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
