The No. 6 Varsity Blues men’s soccer team scored two second-half goals to come away with a 3-1 victory over the Ryerson Rams on Wednesday, October 13 at Birchmount Stadium.
With the win, Toronto improves to 7-1-3 and are in the second place in the OUA East, two points behind the Carleton Ravens (8-1-2).
Ryerson opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a goal by third-year midfielder Adrian Mancini of Richmond Hill, Ont.
The Blues were able to even the score towards the end of the half as rookie midfielder Ezequiel Lubocki of Winnipeg notched his third goal in as many games.
U of T went on to score two unanswered goals in a span of 12 minutes to put the game away for good. First-year striker Mario Kovacevic (Woodbridge, Ont.) scored his first goal as a Varsity Blue on one of his team-high three shots in the 68th minute, with veteran striker Alex Raphael of East York, Ont., adding some insurance in the 80th minute.
Blues goalkeeper John Smits made four saves in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to action on Sunday, October 17 when they travel to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen’s Gaels. Game time is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
