Joanna Medri and Erin McNeely scored 11 and 12 points respectively to lead the Varsity Blues to a 65-33 win over the RMC Paladins on Saturday afternoon, January 9 in Kingston, Ont.
Toronto (5-7) picks up their first win of 2010 and snaps a five-game losing streak, dating back to November 27, 2009. The Blues held their opponents to under 30 percent shooting from the floor and forced 27 turnovers.
Medri of Toronto was 5-of-11 from the floor and also added three assists, while Kingston, Ont. native McNeely had a team high 12 points, six rebounds and three helpers. The Blues leading scorer Nicki Schutz (Toronto) tallied eight points in 19 minutes of action and had a game high eight boards.
Paladins Carolyn Pumphrey (Gander, Nfld.) had 19 points to lead all players and eight rebounds to give the RMC almost half of its total offence.
The Varsity Blues are back in action next weekend when they host two key games at U of T’s Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Toronto will host the third-place Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday, Jan. 15 and then tip off against the division-leading Carleton Ravens on Saturday, Jan. 16
