Hardwood Ski and Bike near Barrie, Ont. hosted University Cup mountain bike race #2 on Sunday, Sept. 20.

The conditions were perfect as student-athletes from universities and colleges from across the province competed in some intense cross-country racing.

In the men’s expert division, U of T’s Bret Waghorne placed an impressive seventh in an elite field of 38 racers. In the men’s B division, David Biancolia finished fourth and was joined by teammate Thomas Soltysiak in the top 10 of that division.

The highlight of the day was the hard fought battle in the women’s B division that saw Samantha Cassisata win another silver medal, her second in as many races.

The Varsity Blues mountain bike team travel to London this Saturday, Sept. 26 to compete in U-Cup race #3 at the Boler Mountain/ London Ski Club.
