The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to the Queen’s Gaels on Sunday, September 13 at Richardson Stadium.
Toronto came out flying, controlling the ball for the first 20 minutes of the match. However, the Gaels began to rally and finally got on the board in the 31st minute when Jordan Brooks (Angus, Ont.) headed a Andrew Nador (Kingston) throw in past Blues goalkeeper John Smits (Mississauga, Ont.) for what would be the only goal of the game.
The Blues turned up the intensity in the second half, generating numerous opportunities and hungry to score. Fourth-year forward Nordo Gooden (Kingston, JAM) had Toronto’s best chance when he sent a header just wide of the Gaels net. Despite their efforts, U of T was unable to find a way past Queen’s goalkeeper Sean Martin-Courtright (Calgary) and fell 1-0.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Wednesday, September 16 when they take on the Ryerson Rams at Lamport Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
