The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team lost their final round robin match, 4-1, to the second-seeded UBC Thunderbirds at the CIS championship on Saturday afternoon.
The loss eliminates the possibility of a return to the medal competition. The Blues have not reached the medal round in the past two seasons, after winning the championship banner at home in 2007.
UBC wasted no time in the early going, scoring just four minutes into the contest. By half time, the Thunderbirds had a strangle hold on the match, taking a 3-0 lead into the break.
North Vancouver, B.C. native Kristen Shier scored her team leading third goal of the national tournament in the 38th minute of the second half to bring the Blues to within a pair, however UBC would add another late in the game to round out the scoring.
CIS all-Canadian Kaelan Watson (Richmond, B.C.) took home player of the game honours for the Blues.
