With the final playoff spot on the line, Hannah Ehrhardt led the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s rugby team with two tries in a 12-0 victory over the York Lions on Thursday, October 8.
The Lions came out strong, making several aggressive pushes and keeping much of the play within the Blues 22 early in the game.
However, Ehrhardt (Toronto) stepped up and scooped up a loose ball, muscling her way over York’s try line.
U of T carried that momentum through, limiting the Lions offensive attacks over the rest of the match.
Ehrhardt would add her second try of the game early in the second half to widen Toronto’s lead further. Gwen Kern (Oakville, Ont.) chipped in with one conversion to round out the Blues 12-0 victory.
York and Toronto finished the 2009 regular season with identical 1-4 regular season records with the Varsity Blues advancing to the playoffs due to their head-to-head victory.
The Blues will face the first-place McMaster Marauders in OUA quarter-final action on Saturday, October 17 in Hamilton, Ont. Game time TBD.
