The Varsity Blue’s women’s rugby team fell 17-5 to the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, October 3 at the University of Toronto’s Back Campus.
Just as the game began, a downpour ensued, making the conditions rough for both teams. Despite this, the Gaels were able to slip past the Blues defence and rack up seven points in the opening minutes.
Fullback Andrea Wadsworth (Toronto, Ont.) was the top scorer for the Gaels. She scored two tries and helped establish an early Queen’s lead. The Blues fought hard against the Gaels but were unable to narrow the gap in the first half, which ended 12-0.
The Blues came out hungry in the second half, Hannah Ehrhardt (Toronto, Ont.) pulled through for the Blues, scoring a try. The Blues repeatedly held off the Gaels but ultimately, the visitors countered and went on to score the deciding try, leaving the game 17-5.
The Blues are back in action on October 8, 2009 as they travel to play their cross-town rivals the York Lions. The game will be played at York University and is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
