The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team went undefeated this past weekend (October 3-4), tallying two wins and one draw at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.
The Blues defeated McGill University by a score of 4-1 in their first game on Saturday. Kyesia O’Neale (Mississauga, Ont.) scored a pair in the win with Kristen Shier (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Rianna Sterk (Embro, Ont.) each adding a goal.
In their second game of the day, the Blues faced-off against the upstart Western Mustangs. The hard fought match ended in a 2-2 draw with Shier scoring her second goal of the day on a well taken penalty stroke and rookie Natalie Provenzano (Mississauga, Ont.) tallying the other Toronto marker.
On Sunday, the Varsity Blues ended their weekend with a convincing 4-1 win over the Carleton Ravens. With the score tied 1-1 midway through the second half, the Blues finally straightened themselves out, scoring three goals in the final minutes to secure the victory.
The Varsity Blues will host the first-place Guelph Gryphons in their last game before the Thanksgiving holiday. They are looking for redemption after losing to the Gryphons, 2-1, in their first meeting.
The match-up will take place on Friday, October 9 at Varsity Centre. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
