The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team came away with two wins this weekend (Sept 20-21) at TD Waterhouse Stadium in London, Ont. The Blues defeated the Queen’s Gaels 8-0 on Saturday and the McGill Martletts 9-0 on Sunday.
On Saturday, Briar Rodgers (St. Catharines, Ont.) led the Blues with three goals and two assists in the 8-0 victory over the Gaels. Fifth-year forward Shannon Treacy (Burlington, Ont.) tallied two goals while Meghan McParland (Toronto, Ont.), Rihanna Sterk (Embro, Ont.) and Hannah Tighe (Penticton, B.C.) scored a goal apiece for the Blues.
Rodgers also led the Blues to a 9-0 win over the Martletts on Sunday, recording two goals and two assistants. Kyesia O’Neale (Mississauga, Ont.) added two goals and one assist of her own, while Cailie O’Hara (Oakville, Ont.), Emily Roy (Peterborough, Ont.), Treacy, Tighe and McParland each tallied one for the Blues.
Alice Zhao (Delta, B.C.) earned two shutouts for the Blues, her second and third of the season.
The Varsity Blues return home to host the defending OUA champions Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, September 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Varsity Centre.
