2-0 START FOR DEFENDING CIS CHAMPIONS

Sheir
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s field hockey team started their 2008 OUA campaign with two wins against the Waterloo Warriors and the York Lions at TD Waterhouse field at the University of Western Ontario on Sunday, September 14.

In their first game, the Blues dominated the midfield, keeping the Warriors scoring opportunities to a minimum. Having trained with the Canadian national team all summer, Blues veteran Kristen Sheir (North Vancouver, B.C.) and 2007 CIS player of the year Cailie O’Hara (Oakville, Ont.) had outstanding performances for Toronto in their 5-0 victory over Waterloo.

The Blues played through horrible weather conditions in their second match of the day but were still able to come away with a 5-1 win over the York Lions. The only goal against came on a penalty corner direct shot. Fifth-year OISE students and Burlington natives Heather Mulligan and Shannon Treacy led the Blues in a solid defensive effort.

The Varsity Blues return to London, Ont. to take on the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, September 20 at 1:30 p.m. and the McGill Martletts on Sunday at 8 a.m.
