RAVENS CLAW PAST BLUES 2-1

Nordo Gooden
The Varsity Blues men’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss against the Carleton Ravens on Sunday at Carleton University’s Ravens’ field.

The Blues and Ravens both came into the match as the only unbeaten teams remaining in the OUA East division. Carleton would open the scoring at the 18th minute when Andrew Park (Sudbury, Ont.) put the game’s first goal into the upper right corner of the net behind Toronto’s goalkeeper Luciano Lombardi (Scarborough, Ont.).

The Varsity Blues mounted an attack after Carleton’s goal and narrowly missed tying the match right before half as they hit the crossbar off a perfectly played corner kick. The Ravens defence was able to clear the rebound and go into the intermission up by one goal.

The Varsity Blues kept the pressure on in the second half. Mario Nallira (Etobicoke, Ont.) fed a beautiful pass to Nordo Gooden (Kingston, JAM.) who scored to tie the game in the 57th minute. The match stayed tied until Matt D’Angelo (Ottawa, Ont.) found a way past the Blues defence to score the go ahead goal for the Ravens and secured the win for his squad.

The Blues will look to bounce back when they travel to face the Trent Excaliber on Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m. The squad returns home to Varsity Centre on Sunday, September 21st to avenge today’s loss against the Carleton Ravens, also at 1 p.m.
