Four University of Toronto students will be representing Canada at the 23rd Winter Universiade in Turin, Italy.
Competing on the Canadian synchronized skating team are Brittany Cryder (International Relations, Unionville, Ont.), Meaghan Garvie (Nursing, Calgary, Alta.), Gillian Kirk (Physical Education, Toronto, Ont.) and Georgia Sapounas (Art & Art History, Kitchener, Ont.)
Synchronized skating makes its first Universiade appearance in 2007, entering as a demonstration sport. The short program will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, followed by the free skate the following day.
U of T will also be represented at the Universiade by Andrea Prieur, the head therapist of the Macintosh Sport Medicine Clinic who is serving on the Canadian therapy staff.
The Winter Universiade runs from January 17 to 27, with more than 1,400 student-athletes coming from 38 participant countries.
