A fourth-year computer science and economics major, Sasha Obucina earned OUA all-star honours in leading the Varsity Blues men’s tennis team to a silver-medal finish at the 2019 OUA championships this past weekend in Markham, Ont.
Obucina defeated York’s Tegbir Hara 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match and teamed up with Nathan Wong to win the No. 1 doubles match, 8-4, as Toronto blanked the Lions 7-0 in semifinal action on Saturday.
The Toronto native capped off the 2019 season with narrow losses to Western’s Alex Day (6-4, 6-4) in the No. 1 singles match and an 8-6 No. 1 doubles loss in the championship final.
