Fourth-year veteran Hochan Ryu earned OUA male swimmer of the year honours for the third straight season after helping the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to their 14th consecutive OUA title this past weekend.
 
The Richmond Hill, Ont., native capped off the meet by breaking two-time Olympic gold medalist Alex Baumann’s 1984 400 IM record (4:16.80) in a new mark of 4:16.12. 
 
A cognitive science major, Ryu also won the men’s 200 butterfly in 1:58.77 and earned a silver medal in the 200 IM (1:59.13). He swam the second leg of Toronto’s gold-medal winning 800 freestyle relay team on Day 1.
