Steven Kung knocked down 35 kills, nine digs and three service aces in two games as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team recorded two huge victories this past weekend.
The fourth-year Physical Education and Health student guided the Blues to a stunning victory over the No. 4 McMaster Marauders on Friday, Jan. 30 and a straight-set victory over the Guelph Gryphons Saturday.
The Toronto native led his team with 15 kills in a five-set thriller (27-25, 19-25, 25-14, 14-25, 15-11) against the Marauders and recorded the team’s final five kills of the match to help lift the Blues 15-11 in the fifth and final game.
Kung continued to dominate on Saturday afternoon, tallying 20 kills as Blues downed the Gryphons in three close games (25-23, 25-22, 25-23). He recorded the last two kills in each set to secure the shutout victory for the Blues.
A 2007-08 CIS all-Canadian, Kung is currently ranked first in the OUA, and the only OUA player in the CIS top 10 (8th), averaging 4.47 points per game.
