First-year standout Lucia Stafford earned U SPORTS female performer of the meet honours in leading the Varsity Blues women’s track and field team to their third consecutive national title this past weekend in Edmonton.

Stafford claimed three gold medals and one silver medal over the three-day meet. The Toronto native kicked off Day 2 by earning the women’s 1000m gold medal, crossing the finish line in 2:47.70. She then anchored the women’s 4x800 relay team of Madeleine Kelly, Gillian Ceyhan and Avery Garrett-Patterson to a gold-medal finish in 8:50.84.

An engineering major, Stafford helped U of T to a first-place finish in the women’s 4x400 relay on Day 3. She, along with Jazz Shukla, Kelly and Katrina Innanen won the race in 3:45.03. She also earned a silver medal in the women’s 1500m, finishing behind her sister, 2016 Olympian Gabriela Stafford.
