Colin Dale received the George Tully Trophy for the fencer most proficient in skill, style and sportsmanship as he helped the Varsity Blues men’s fencing team successfully defend their provincial title at the OUA championship this past weekend at Brock University.

The second-year physics major from Toronto struck gold on Day 1, winning the Desjarlais Trophy as the individual epee champion.

Following a tough 15-12 opening round victory over Trent, Dale delivered convincing 15-8 and 15-5 wins over Brock and RMC to earn his place in the gold medal round. Challenging Zachary Zanussi from Carleton for the top step on the podium, Dale showcased his determination in an exciting 15-13 gold medal victory.

He followed that up leading teammates Beston Leung, Daniel Zhang, and Neil Kohlmann to gold in the men’s epee team relay event on Sunday, securing Toronto’s second straight OUA title.
