Sophomore standout Vanessa Treasure was named the OUA female swimmer of the year as she captured four individual gold medals, two in record-breaking time, as well as one relay gold at the 2012 OUA championships this past weekend (Feb. 9-11) in Sudbury, Ont.

Treasure won the Dr. Jeno Tihanyi award for her double-gold performance in the 200- and 400-metre individual medleys (IM).

The Mississauga, Ont., native started the meet by breaking an 18 year-old record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:29.90.  She followed that up on Day 2 with another OUA-best swim, this time in the 100-metre breaststroke in a time of 1:10.94.

Treasure, a second-year physical education student, also helped Toronto’s women to an OUA record-breaking performance and first-place finish in the 400-metre medley relay.

MBNA believes that with personal drive and the right kind of support, someone who thrives on the playground can one day ascend the podium.
