The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team welcomed competitors from across the province to Back Campus Fields for a preseason invitational tournament this past weekend.
During the exhibition showcase the Blues participated in four contests. Toronto earned victories over Waterloo, Western, and U of T alumni, while dropping their final match of the weekend versus York.
Opening the invitational versus some familiar faces in the U of T alumni squad, the current Varsity Blues captured a 4-1 win. Goalscorers in the win included two from Allie Lavis and individual markers from Imke Arndt and Lauren Cardwell.
Later that day Toronto defeated the Western Mustangs in a shutout effort 5-0. Five different Blues found the back of the net with goals from Cardwell, Lavis, Catalina Meilleur, Danielle D'Silva, and captain Maggie Mullins.
On Day 2 of the tournament U of T defeated the Waterloo Warriors 2-0. Meilleur notched both goals in the win for the Varsity Blues.
And to close out the weekend, Toronto dropped a 3-0 decision versus the defending OUA champion York Lions.
Following the preseason invitational, the Varsity Blues will open their 2026 OUA regular season this coming weekend with back-to-back games. First, Toronto will travel to Hamilton to challenge the McMaster Marauders late Friday (Sept. 11) afternoon. Then the Blues welcome the Lions back to Back Campus Fields for a Saturday (Sept. 12) afternoon showdown at U of T.
