The No. 4 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team recorded a 2-1 win over the Trent Excalibur on Sunday (Sept. 13) afternoon in Peterborough, Ont.
Third-year forward Niklas Hallam continued his strong 2026 campaign. The kinesiology student had a two-goal performance to bring his goal total to six on the season with five goals in his last three games.
The two teams traded chances for 90 minutes of play. U of T got a chance in the 18
th minute but Excalibur goalkeeper Owen Schultz was able to turn aside the shot. Trent scored the first goal of the match in the 25
th minute when Caleb Charters set up Nicolas Cordero to put the Blues behind. Toronto continued to press and would be rewarded for their efforts in the 41
st minute when Hallam slipped between two Excalibur defenders and beat Schultz with a slick left-foot strike to even the score before halftime.
The Blues continued to press in the second half, looking to gain an advantage with three points on the line. The Blues and Excalibur each had strong chances, but Schultz and second-year Blues goalkeeper Shane Perera were on the mark when called upon. Momentum swung in U of T's favour in the 69
th minute when Hallam stormed through the defence on the counterattack to beat Schultz for the eventual game-winning goal.
From that point onwards, Toronto continued to play a stout defensive game as the Blues notched their second win of the season and Perera earned his first victory in net for the Blue and White.
The Blues will take on the Excalibur in their next match, this time at Varsity Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 20) afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m., with tickets available at
