GROUT JUMPS TO NEW HEIGHTS IN TEXAS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team competed at the Lancer Team Challenge in Windsor, Ont., and the Pandas Open in Edmonton, Alta., on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7. Meanwhile, fifth-year high jumper Aiden Grout competed at the Charlie Thomas Invitational in Bryan-College Station, Texas on Saturday Feb. 7.

Grout finished in third-place in the men's heptathlon out of 20 competitors. Grout accumulated 5567 total points. In high jump, Grout reached a height of 2.23m to tie for the third highest jump in U SPORTS history.

Lancer Team Challenge Results

On Friday in Windsor, the Blues earned three top-three finishes. Toronto's relay team's continued to be a strong suit for the team, finishing third in the men's and women's 4x800m relay. In the women's race, U of T punched their ticket to the U SPORTS championship in Winnipeg as Madelyn Bullock, Parker Hopkins, Sarah White and Julia Agostinelli finished third out of 13 teams and ran the race in 8:58.60. On the men's side the quartet of Moses Aidoo, Andrej Prekajski, Brandon Cidade and Nick Trieu finished third of 11 teams with a time of 7:42.34. Second-year St. Albert, Alta., native Maakor Okai also punched her ticket to U SPORTS with a fourth-place finish in weight throw with a distance of 17.31m. Staying in the field, third-year multi Tyler Robertson had a top-three finish in the men's hept long jump, jumping for a distance of 6.47m.

On the second day of the Lacer Team Challenge, Robertson began the day with a first-place finish in the men's hept 60m hurdle. The Ajax native defeated seven other athletes with a time of 8.61 seconds. On the women's side, fifth-year public health student Allison MacDonald finished in fifth-place out of 16 jumpers in triple jump, going for a distance of 11.39m.

Pandas Open Results

In Edmonton, fifth-year human biology student Caiden Schultz raced in the men's 300m on Friday and finished in sixth-place with a time of 35.20 seconds. Meanwhile on Saturday, the Blues notched a second-place finish in the women's 4x200m relay as Gloria Etim, Alexandra Tenn, Paulia Procyk and Emily Wilke finished the race in 1:41.36. On the men's side, a time of 1:30 from Schultz along with Logan Duley, Phikelela Moyo and Parker Long saw them finish in third-place.

Next up, the Blues will host the Hal Brown Last Chance Meet at the Athletic Centre Field House on Friday, Feb. 13.
