BLUES FIGHT UNTIL THE FINAL BUZZER AGAINST THE WARRIORS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 86-76 to the Waterloo Warriors on Friday (Feb. 6) night in Waterloo, Ont.

In an evenly contested game, each quarter was won by a margin of four points or less. The Blues were efficient in the paint, garnering 37 rebounds to Waterloo's 27. Meanwhile, Toronto's bench continues to be a strength for the team in the homestretch of the regular season, outscoring the Warriors 38-24. The Blues were able to generate 16 points off of turnovers. Overall, the Blues shot 41 per cent on field goals and shot 29 per cent from beyond the three-point line.

Leading the way for U of T was third-year forward Simeon Jeffers, who notched a team-high 19 points while shooting 50 per cent from the field. Third-year guard Nathan Bureau also reached the double-digit mark with 12 points while shooting 40 per cent from the field and 33 per cent from beyond the three-point line and added two steals on the defensive side of the court. The Blues guards were strong on rebounds as second-year guard Rohan Scott-Smith. Scott-Smith's seven rebounds marked a game-high. Meanwhile, his first-year counterpart Mikey Ballout had five boards.

For the Warriors, Stefan Prica had a game-high 22 points on 53 per cent shooting. Meanwhile, Isaiah Mcrae had 16 points and 40 per cent shooting from the field. Three other Warriors hit the double-digit point plateau in a balanced attack.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 7) night when they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
