TWO BLUES WIN GOLD ON DAY 1 OF OUA TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

After Day 1 of the 2026 OUA Track and Field Championships the University of Toronto Varsity Blues claimed two gold medals and added another five podium finishes at the Toronto Track and Field Centre on Friday Feb. 20.

Leading the way for U of T was third-year neuroscience student Jason Okpere who began the day with a gold medal in the men's weight throw. The Lagos, Nigeria natives throw went for a distance of 17.69m for his first OUA medal of his career. Meanwhile, fifth-year standout Julia Agostinelli earned a gold medal in the women's 1000m race, edging out Western's Sophie Coutts with a time of 2:46.71.

Agostinelli picked up her second medal of the weekend as the Blues quartet of herself, Madelyn Bullock, Parker Hopkins and Kaitlyn Koyanagi earned an OUA silver medal in the 4x800m relay; clocking in a 903.94. In the women's 60m hurdle, fourth-year kinesiology student Paulia Procyk earned a silver medal with a time of 8.46. Rounding out the day for U of T on the women's side was second-year thrower Maakor Okai. Okai eanred a silver medal in women's shot put when she threw for a distance of 13.54m.

On the men's side, Toronto's relay teams continued to be a strong suit for the team, earning a silver medal as Moses Aidoo, Shan Dhanoa, Brandon Cidade and Nick Trieu ran for a time of 7:37.54. Second-year multi Tyler Robertson put up a strong performance in the men's heptathlon and will look to build off of his performance on Day 2 of the OUA championships.

The 2026 OUA Track and Field Championships continue tomorrow (Feb. 21) morning at the Toronto Track and Field Centre. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., and will be a live broadcast on oua.tv.
