BLUES CAP OFF PERFECT PRESEASON AGAINST LAURIER

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team capped off a perfect preseason with a 3-1 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday (Oct. 9) night at Varsity Arena.

Following a scoreless opening frame, the Blues broke through in the second period with a goal from fourth-year forward Christina Alexiou. The Oakville native struck three and a half minutes into the frame finishing off a feed from first-year defender Ashley Minor. The Golden Hawks found an equalizer before the end of period as Sadie D'Angela found the back of the net.

Toronto controlled the pace of play in the third period and were rewarded for their effort as fourth-year forward Abby Whitworth scored her fifth goal of the preseason with first-year defender Abigail Carr drawing the assist. The Blues proceeded to shut the door defensively and when called upon, third-year goaltender Lyla McKinnon made some of the best of her 26 saves on the night. With four second left on the clock, third-year forward Laralee Rizarri scored an empty net goal to seal the victory for the Blue and White.

Now, U of T turns their focus to the 2026-27 regular season, beginning the journey with a rematch versus Laurier on Thursday (Oct. 15) night at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. All Varsity Blues regular season games will be live streamed on oua.tv.
