BLUES STIFLED BY DEFENDING CHAMPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team fell 12-4 to the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday (Oct. 25) afternoon in Guelph.

The Blues managed to jump out to a 2-0 lead over the defending CUFLA champions but six unanswered goals by the Gryphons gave them a comfortable margin. U of T continued to fight throughout the game but strong attacking by Guelph was too much to overcome.

Third-year attack Kevin Yan led the way for Toronto scoring a goal and adding two assists. Fifth-year midfielder Benny Konishi scored two goals and U of T's defenders turned defence into offence with Ethan Milroy scoring a goal and Gabriel Trozzo and Callum Jackson adding assists.

For Guelph, Robert Baxter led the way with five goals and an assist. Meanwhile, Brandon Orr had a two goals and two helps and John Logue potted another two goals.

With a 3-6 record on the season the push for the postseason continues as U of T closes out the regular season on Sunday (Nov. 1) afternoon, welcoming the Laurier Golden Hawks to Varsity Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets and live stats available here.
