BLUES HOLD PACE WITH NO. 2 GAELS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team 55-84 to the No. 2 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels on Saturday (Jan. 31) afternoon at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.

U of T held level with the first-place Gaels in the first quarter but a 27-point second quarter from Queen's saw them pull ahead before a hard-fought second half. The Blues held pace on the board battles with Queen's notching 35 total rebounds and 15 in the offensive zone. Toronto recorded seven steals in the game and shot 25 per cent from beyond the three-point line.

Three Blues reached the double-digit point plateau. Fourth-year guard Janet Enge led the team with 12 points while also recording seven rebounds and two steals. Fourth-year forward Alex Jaglall's 11 points were complimented by two rebounds, two assists and 80 per cent shooting from the field as the Pickering native was impactful all over the floor. Second-year centre Zi Yang Wang continued to be a presence in the paint with 10 points and five rebounds. Third-year guard Faith Joseph recorded a game-high three steals.

For the Gaels, Kiyara Letlow had a game-high 16 points on 57 per cent shooting on field goals. Bella Gaudet was second in command with 11 points and shot 60 per cent on three-pointers. Ally Smith and Katrina Renon each recorded double-digit points with 10.

The Blues are back in action on Friday (Feb. 6) night when they take on the Waterloo Warriors in Waterloo, Ont. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
