BLUES PUT ON DEFENSIVE CLINIC ON SHOOT FOR THE CURE NIGHT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team defeated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 55-32 on Shoot for The Cure night at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House on Friday (Jan. 30) night.

U of T's stifling defence held Ontario Tech to single-digit scoring all four quarters. Toronto was all over the glass, pulling down 62 rebounds compared to the Ridgebacks 40, of which 26 were offensive. The Blues established a dominant paint presence with 32 points in the paint.
 
11 different Blues notched their name in the scoring column tonight, led by second-year centre Zi Yang Wang with a double-double on a game-high 11 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 71 per cent from the field. Also in double figures was second-year guard Lia Barbieri with 10 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Fourth-year forward Gabrielle Reed notched eight points and 10 rebounds, with fourth-year forward Janet Enge pulling down nine rebounds to complement her eight points. Third-year guard Faith Joseph notched a game-high four steals.
 
For the Ridgebacks, Kaleah Gosse led the way with seven points and four steals. Meanwhile, Adra Barnet added six points and four rebounds. Elliott Cowan led the way in the paint with seven rebounds.
 
The Blues return to the court on Saturday (Jan. 31) afternoon when they take on the No. 2 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed live on oua.tv.
