The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team welcomed some of the best from across the province to the annual Fred Foot Classic inside the Bruce Kidd Field House this weekend.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
U of T claimed two steps on the podium in the 1000m as Parker Hopkins crossed first in a time of 2:52.22, while Madelyn Bullock was third with a time of 3:00.68. Grabbing silver in the 300m, Alexandra Tenn crossed the line in a time of 42.43. Caitlin Peever placed third overall in the 60m dash with a time of 8.15 in the event final.
In the field, Previous Drub delivered the best leap of the day of 1.66m to win the high jump. In the long jump, Genevieve Mayville placed second with a mark of 5.42m. Brynn Miller took third in the pole vault clearing 3.35m. Maakor Okai once again claimed a win in the shot put clearing 12.51m on her best attempt.
MEN'S RESULTS
Earning the second step on the podium, Mattheo Douglas placed second in the 300m with a time of 36.41. Two Blues in Christopher De Martin and Nathan Castanheiro placed second and third in the 600m posting times of 1:21.58 and 1:25.18, respectively. Toronto replicated this in the 1000m as Andrej Prekajski took second with a time of 2:29.38 and right behind in third was Brandon Cidade in 2:29.55. In the 1 mile run, Rami Darawsha placed second and was the top OUA runner with a time of 4:29.79. Liam Lemay took third in the highly competitive men's 60m dash crossing the line in a time of 7.13.
Shifting to field, Tobi Oyedele won the triple jump with a leap of 13.57m. Jason Okpere claimed the win in both the shot put and weight throw delivering tosses of 13.51m and 17.83m, the latter being the fourth best weight throw distance across U SPORTS competition this season.
Next up for the Varsity Blues track and field team will be the York Open scheduled to take place from Jan. 30-31.
