The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team opened the 2025 season with a 15-9 win over the McMaster Marauders in on Saturday (Sept. 6) afternoon in Hamilton, Ont.
Second-year midfielder Alexander May scored U of T's first goal of the season. Back-to-back McMaster goals put the Blues behind but an offensive surge to end off the first quarter put Toronto ahead 4-2. First-year midfielder Zach Abu-Ali scored a hat trick in the first half and May scored his second goal of the game as the Blues went into halftime with an 8-4 lead.
The Blues added another seven goals to their total in the second half. Abu-Ali was excellent in his Blues debut leading the way offensively with a five goal performance. Throughout the duration of their season opener, Toronto's offence was firing on all cylinders.
May finished the game with four goals. Meanwhile third-year midfielder Jonathan Murawsky had a hat trick and third-year attack Daniel Clarke scored two goals as the Blues start off the season with a 1-0 record.
McMaster had 19 shots but third-year goalie Benjamin Rishikof was strong for the Blues.
