BLUES FALL TO FIRST-PLACE GRYPHONS ON THE ROAD

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team fell 24-10 to the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday (Sept. 21) afternoon in Guelph, Ont.

The first half was an even tilt between the two sides with Toronto and Guelph trading chances. Third-year attack Daniel Clarke got the Blues going offensively cutting into the early 2-0 lead Guelph obtained with his first of two goals in the game. First-year standout Zach Abu-Ali's strong start to the season continued scoring four of his five goals in the game in the first 30 minutes. Fifth-year transfer Scott Del Zotto also netted a goal in the first half but four unanswered Guelph goals put U of T behind 10-7 going into halftime.

In the second half Guelph's offence continued their strong play, scoring back-to-back goals before Abu-Ali's 15th goal of the season. The Gryphons continued their scoring ways, finding the back of the net 14 times in the second half. Clarke and Del Zotto each scored their second goal of the game in the fourth quarter but the Blues ended up falling to the first-place team in CUFLA's West division.

Third-year goalie Benjamin Rishikof made 13 saves.

The Blues next game is on Saturday (Sept. 27) afternoon when they take on the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury, Ont. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
