The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team defeated the Queen's Gaels 3-1 in preseason action at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC) on Friday (Sept. 19) night.
Set scores for the match were 16-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.
Taking to the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, the Blues rallied from a set down in front of a full crowd. 13 different U of T players took to the court in the exhibition contest with 11 of 12 registering a point on the game sheet.
Third-year outside hitter Giulia Chimilovski led the way with a team-high 12 points from 11 kills and two block assists. Also reaching double-digits, second-year middle Marie Boulerice added 10.5 points from three kills, three service aces, three solo blocks, and three block assists. Both Julia Liu and Olivia Zhu contributed 9.5 and 6.5 points, respctively for the Blues.
First-year setter Marina Gustke tallied 19 assists, while first-year libero Katie Di Gregorio recorded a team-high 13 digs in the win.
For the Gaels, Lauren Macphail secured nine kills, three service aces, three solo blocks, and two block assists for a game-high 16 points. Claire Carter also delivered a strong offensive output with 12 kills, two aces, and one solo block totaling 15 points.
U of T will continue their preseason schedule with a trip to Montreal, facing off against the UQAM Citadins on Saturday, Sept. 27 and Montreal Carabins on Sunday, Sept. 28.Â
