The No. 7 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team secured their third win of the season, defeating the Queen's Gaels 1-0 on Saturday (Sept. 13) afternoon in Kingston, Ont.
The Blues were strong on offence from the moment the match began with 7 shots fired towards the Gaels net, and three on target in the first half. Toronto's offence was built on the back of their defence as the Blues gave up zero shots on goal through the opening 45 minutes. Despite quality chances from the Blue and White, the match was scoreless going into halftime.
In the 58
th minute the Blues offence got the goal they were looking for when fifth-year defender Anthony White broke the deadlock. White received the ball off of a deflection at the top of the box and the Kinesiology student capitalized on the chance, firing a shot past Gaels goalkeeper Connor Adams. The Blues continued to play a strong all-around game as they continued to generate scoring chances to cement their lead. First-year forward Jordan Grey and fifth-year forward Kingsley Belele tallying multiple shots on target in the match.
White's goal ended up being the difference maker for U of T, as the defence continued their strong play throughout the second half, conceding one shot on goal, which was stopped by second-year goalkeeper Filip Zendelek.
With the win, the Blues remain undefeated in the 2025 season with a 3-0-1 record. Zendelek's clean sheet was his second of the season.
U of T will be back in action on Sunday (Sept. 14) afternoon when they take on the RMC Paladins in Kingston, Ont. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
