KRAHN STEPS INTO LEAD ASSISTANT ROLE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team announced Alix Krahn as new lead assistant coach for the 2025-26 season.

Krahn steps into the role filling in for long-time lead assistant Vincenzo Malia, who will be on leave for the 2025-26 season. Krahn previously served as an assistant coach with the Varsity Blues from 2017-24.

"We're grateful and thrilled to have Alix take on this lead coaching role," said Varsity Blues women's volleyball head coach Kristine Drakich. "Alix is an incredible coach and leader and, in addition to bringing her knowledge and skills, she brings continuity and a deep understanding of our program's systems and values - we're super excited for this season!"

In addition to her previous work with the U of T women's volleyball program, Krahn guided Team Manitoba to a gold medal at the 2022 Canada Summer Games as head coach and was also the head coach for Team Ontario Black in 2018. Most recently, she contributed her expertise as an assistant coach with the Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team during the 2024–25 season

"I will never forget my first practice with U of T back in 2017 – it was an instant feeling of this is exactly the program for me," said Krahn. "I have so much gratitude for Kristine and Vincenzo, who have been incredible mentors along my coaching journey, and for all of the support staff I have worked with over the years at U of T. It is a privilege to accept this incredible opportunity, and I'm excited for the journey that the 2025-26 season will take us on."

As a player, Krahn was a four-time academic all-Canadian for the Winnipeg Wesmen women's volleyball program. Academically, she has earned a Bachelor's (BSc) Kinesiology from the University of Winnipeg, a Master's (MA) Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the University of Manitoba, and both a PhD and Post-Doctoral Fellowship at York University.
