As announced by Volleyball Canada, incoming University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball student-athlete Kylie Savin was one of 18 players selected to attend the U19 women's national team training camp scheduled to take place in mid-June.
"When I received the news, I was extremely honoured and excited to get the opportunity to represent Canada again this summer," said Savin. "After having the best experience last summer with the team competing in the NORCECA qualifier, I could not be more excited to get to continue my journey with the U19 national team and train hard to hopefully earn a spot on the travel roster. I cannot wait to get to learn from so many amazing coaches and train with the best athletes in Canada – I could not be more grateful to wear a Canadian jersey."
A 5-foot-11 outside hitter and libero from Oakville, Ont., Savin has established herself as a top talent in the country. The versatile athlete previously donned the maple leaf with the U19 team last summer, aiding in a silver-medal finish at the 2024 NORCECA Continental Championship. As well, she competed with the Canadian Youth National Team in 2023.
With her club team, Pakmen Volleyball Club, she has also garnered OVA recognition in the form of the U16 Excellence Award and U17 Coaches Award.
Savin and the other 17 selected athletes will converge on Queen's University for the national team training camp set to take place from June 15 to 21. From the camp, 12 players will be named to the competition roster for the U19 NORCECA Pan Am Cup, in Kingston from June 24-28, and the U19 FIVB World Championship in Serbia and Croatia from July 3-13.
"I think this experience will greatly help me prepare for the fall at U of T as it will get me used to a highly competitive volleyball schedule, intense coaching and training, as well was make me more comfortable on big stages," described Savin. "I am again super grateful to get this opportunity to represent Canada this summer and cannot wait to begin my journey at U of T this fall!"
