WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DOMINATES ON SENIOR NIGHT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team swept the Trent Excalibur 3-0 in another dominant performance on Saturday (Feb. 8) afternoon at the Goldring Centre as they honoured their graduating players on senior night. The Blues controlled the match from start to finish, securing the victory with set scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 25-13.

Toronto showcased their offensive efficiency with 36 kills and a .300 hitting percentage, while limiting Trent to just 26 kills and a .020 efficiency. The Blues defensive efforts were once again stellar, recording 41 digs and seven service aces, ensuring Trent was unable to build momentum.

The Blues were led by their four graduating players: Julia Murmann, Robin Melnick, Natalisa Souza, and Anna Gadomski. Murmann paced the team with 12 kills and 15.5 points, while Melnick picked up 26 assists and a block, Souza recorded three kills and five digs, and Gadomski had seven kills and two service aces. Murmann added nine digs three service aces, finishing with a .286 hitting percentage. Third-year outside hitter Olivia Zhu followed closely with 10 kills, five digs, and an impressive .500 hitting efficiency.

For the Excalibur, Kathryn Beresford and Lexy Schmidt-Roycroft each tallied five kills, but Trent struggled to break through Toronto's well-organized defense.

The Blues improve to a 10-8 record on the season as they continue their push to a playoff spot. They close out regular season play in Kingston, Ont., where they will face the RMC Paladins. First serve on Friday, Feb. 14 is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be streamed online via oua.tv.
