The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team faced a tough challenge against the Brock Badgers on Friday (Feb.14) night, falling 61-40 in a hard-fought contest.
The Blues found themselves trailing early, as Brock's aggressive defense limited Toronto's scoring opportunities. The first half saw the Blues struggling to convert their shots, although they were able to grab 51 rebounds and 20 offensive boards.
Several players had notable performances in their final home game of the season. Fifth-year forward Thuraya Abdul Hamid led the team with 12 rebounds while adding eight points. Fourth-year guard Kaylee Williams provided a spark from beyond the arc, shooting 2-for-3 from three-point range and finishing with 10 points. Second-year guard Raya Hafez picked up six points and five rebounds, and rookie forward Zi Yang Wang was a force on the glass, grabbing a team-high 17 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards.
Toronto showed resilience on defense with five steals. The Badgers took advantage of Toronto's 20 turnovers, capitalizing on their defensive pressure to create transition opportunities. Madalyn Weinert led the Badgers with 17 points.
The Blues look towards their final matchup of the season against the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton, Ont. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and the game can be streamed live on oua.tv.
