BLUES FALL TO MARAUDERS IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team played their final game of the 2024-25 OUA regular season on Monday (Feb. 17) afternoon in Hamilton, Ont., falling 79-49 to the McMaster Marauders.

The Blues and Marauders battled in a back-and-forth first half that ended 37-29 in favour of McMaster. Toronto found it difficult to establish momentum, shooting 31 percent from the field. U of T found their groove in the third quarter, shooting 50% from the field, including eight points from Raya Hafez, but their deficit grew by nine points. A 12-0 McMaster run in the first half of the fourth quarter proved to be too much for the Blues to overcome.

Hafez and Zi Yang Wang led the scoring for the Blues with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Hafez led the team with two three-pointers and added two rebounds and a steal in her 34 minutes on the floor. Wang made an impact coming off the bench with a double-double, grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds while adding four blocks and a field goal percentage of 55%. The Blues collected 40 rebounds as a team, matching McMaster's mark. In addition to Wang, Lia Barbieri followed with six boards, and Kaylee Williams, Thuraya Abdul Hamid, and Alex Jaglall picked up four each. Additionally, Williams was able to catch the Marauders sleeping on multiple occasions, adding three steals.

The Marauders capitalized on turnovers, forcing 33 from the Blues and giving up just 10 of their own en route to their 13th win of the season. Emily Frankovic led McMaster with 16 points, while Sophia Urosevic provided 13 off the bench and Amy Stinson and Cassandra Joli-Cour scored 10 each.
