ALVAREZ REACHES 1,000 CAREER POINTS IN WIN OVER BADGERS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team played their final home game of the regular season on Friday (Feb. 14) night, taking down the Brock Badgers by a score of 73-64 on senior night, led by fifth-year guard Inaki Alvarez who picked up his 1,000th career OUA point in the game.

The Blues came out strong in tonight's matchup, with Alvarez achieving his 1,000th career OUA point with a layup through traffic early in the first quarter. Alvarez used the momentum from his milestone to his advantage, ending the game with 22 points while shooting 50% from beyond the arc and adding seven rebounds, nine assists, and four steals.

The second quarter saw U of T pull away from the Badgers, outscoring them 27-11 and shooting 75% from three-point range and 60% overall in the frame. Alvarez had eight points in the second quarter alone, and Nigel Hylton picked up six of his seven points in that span.

Toronto's defense was the difference against Brock, as they recorded 10 steals and scored 19 points off of turnovers. Lennart Weber paced the team with three blocks, more than the two total by the Badgers, while the Blues had seven collectively.
Four different Blues scored double-digit points, as Simeon Jeffers (15), Quarry Whyne (12), and Lennart Weber (10) provided secondary scoring behind Alvarez. Jeffers hit timely three-pointers throughout the game to keep the Badgers at bay.

The Blues improve to 9-13 on the season, and look to keep their playoff hopes alive in their final game of the season on Sunday, Feb. 16 against the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton, Ont. The game can be streamed live via oua.tv.
