The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team defeated the York Lions 3-0 on Saturday (Nov. 8) night at the Tait McKenzie Centre in Toronto.
Set scores were: 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.
From the opening serve the Blues controlled the pace of play establishing an early lead that they never relinquished through their three-set sweep. U of T hit .519 in the first set and maintained their dominance with strong serving and consistent execution through the final two sets.
Leading the way for U of T was fourth-year outside hitter Olivia Zhu with 17 points and a solo block. Meanwhile, second-year outside Julia Liu with 16 points and a solo block. First-year setter Marina Gustke anchored the attack with 31 assists while fourth-year middle Thea Ziesmann contributed on both sides of the ball with three solo blocks and two aces.
On the Lions side, Quincy Johnson led the way with eight points. Kianna Drewniak and Alexis Miller each chipped in with four kills.
The Blues will take on the Waterloo Warriors in their next match on Friday (Nov. 14) night. First-serve is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on
