The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to the York Lions on Friday (Nov. 7) night in Toronto.
Set scores were: 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 19-25.
Toronto came out strong in the opening set, finding offensive rhythm early and maintaining their composure throughout the match. Momentum swung in the Lions favour as the match progressed despite efficient ball movement, York was effective in capitalizing on their chances.
Leading Toronto's offence was fourth-year outside hitter Olivia Zhu with 17 points. Third-year outside hitter Giulia Chimilovski contributed nine kills and four aces, adding a spark from the service line. Second-year outside Julia Liu provided balance at the net with two solo blocks and eight digs. Meanwhile, first-year setter Marina Gustke was instrumental in facilitating the attack with a team-high 33 assists.
For York, Victoria Herrington had 17 kills Emma Serlin had a game-high 42 assist and Yulia Glazko led the Lions with three service aces.
U of T and York will match up again tomorrow (Nov. 8) night at the Tait McKenzie Centre in Toronto. First-serve is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game can be streamed live on
