The No. 9 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team defeated the York Lions 3-1 in Toronto.
Set scores were: 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21
Toronto opened the match by taking the first two sets with consistent offensive execution. After dropping the third set, the Blues regrouped in the fourth with a balanced attack and key service runs that propelled the Blue and White to victory. The Blues hit .300 per cent overall and controlled the match with five service aces and four team blocks.
Offensively, second-year outside hitter Iannis Toma led the way with a team-high 17 points on a .379 hitting percentage and an ace. Fifth-year standout's Maxime Gratton and Hunter Arulpragasam each added 12 kills apiece and Gratton also notched two aces and a block. Fourth-year setter Michael Hickey orchestrated the offence with 39 assists and five digs. First-year middle Rennick Koskela anchored the front row with a solo block and two block assists.
York hit .476 per cent as a team in the third set. Colby Soolsma led the way offensively with 12 kills. Alex Dorling contributed 10 kills on a .643 hitting percentage.
