The No. 9 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team defeated the York Lions 3-2 on Saturday (Nov. 8) night at the Tait McKenzie Centre in Toronto.
After taking the first set, U of T dropped the next two. With their backs against the wall, U of T showed their resilience, evening the score with a thrilling 29-27 victory to force a decisive. In the final set, fourth-year setter Michael Hickey set up fifth-year outside hitter Maxime Gratton for the kill as U of T improved their record to 5-0 this season.
Leading the way for Toronto was fifth-year outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam with 20 points and 12 digs. Gratton closly followed Arulpragasam's point toal with 19. Hickey notched a game-hight 47 assists and fith-year libero Rylan Armstrong had a game-high 13 digs. Third-year outside hitter Jack Li had a team-high two solo blocks.
On the York side, Chris Hoffman led the way with 17.5 total points. Jasraj Nijar notched 42 assists and Hoffman along with Nathan Luken and Alex Dorling all had two solo blocks.
